Banana leaves are not very well known yet but are already commonly used to help treat and prevent disease in aquariums. They share the same properties as Catappa leaves but provide more intense colors to the fish.
Banana leaves release tannins and other elements into the water, improving fish health and lowering pH levels. Small fish like to hide and spend a lot of time in and around these leaves. When breeding shrimp, the leaves positively impact breeding results due to their antifungal effect, reducing the likelihood of eggs becoming moldy. Banana leaves can also be used for decorative purposes.
We recommend 1 leaf per 5 liters of aquarium water. Banana leaves color the water, so the more leaves you add, the darker the water will be. After 48 to 72 hours, the leaves will sink to the bottom. Their effectiveness lasts between 2 to 3 weeks, after which they will slowly decay. Shrimp, lobsters, and snails will consume the leaves, promoting their natural diet. Decayed leaves can eventually be removed.
